Halal Japan Mobile App - A Halal Food IdentifierFor years, the Halal Japan Team (a group of religious scholars and PhD holders in medical and chemical departments) has selected products used by Muslims in Japan and checked with the respective manufacturers to identify the origin of the ingredients, and shared the information on their Facebook page. The ingredient descriptions on products are typically written in general terms or Codes. Generally, the team ensures that certain ingredients are plant-based rather than animal-based, which can be considered halal. The number of Muslims in Japan is rather small, but it has been rapidly increasing in recent years. The demand for more information grew in tandem with the increase in the number of Muslim residents, temporary workers, and tourists. Halal Japan launched the Halal and Muslim-friendly product identifier and as of now (May 2024), the App contains the status of over 25,750 products. You can download the App and search for a product you wish to consume by category, shops’ name or brands. If you are in a store, simply scan the barcode of the product and within seconds the App will display the product’s detailed status, including the name in English and Japanese languages, the sources of the ingredients (plant, animal, synthetic), and in which shops/supermarkets it can be purchased. Halal food stores do not sell everything you might need in your daily life. Some products must be purchased at supermarkets, convenience stores, etc. This app gives you the freedom to shop in a variety of stores. If the item you are looking for is not listed, take clear photos of the product (front, back, "name, ingredients, contact number, and barcode"), and send them to the team. You will find the product on the list after the app’s next update. Note that the manufacturers sometimes change the ingredients without notice. If you find such a product, you can report it so the team will be able to double check and delete the item. If you need to report or want to ask a question, visit the profile page in the app and click on Help & Support, which enables you to send an email directly to the team. Halal Japan App Subscription Plans & FeesThere are four subscription plans which you can choose from; 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and a 1 year auto-renewal plans. Auto-renewal subscriptions are renewed automatically 24 hours prior to end of current subscriptions period and billed automatically through App Store. Muslims who travel to Japan for a short visit can opt for a short plan to save money.
