Eager to attract more Muslim tourists, Japan’s Hokkaido Island wants to work with Malaysia’s Halal Industry Development Corporation "HDC" to make its capital Sapporo more "Muslim-friendly".
Nozomi Ota, who heads Sapporo’s Developing Local Cuisines in Observance with the Cultures of Muslim Tourists Project, said the city had begun to make changes to accommodate Muslim travelers by building more prayer rooms and publishing a list of halal restaurants.
"We hope travelers can enjoy our food in Sapporo and feel safe. We will work with the HDC and fly some people to Malaysia to learn about the halal food", she told reporters in Chuo-ku here recently.
By far the best option for visitors who plan to do a lot of travelling is the Japan Rail Pass, which allows unlimited travel on almost all JR Trains, including the Shinkansen, for a fixed period of 7, 14 or 21 days.
Whereas a single round trip from Tokyo to Osaka costs almost 27,000 yen, the 7-day Rail Pass in Ordinary Class is 29,110 yen. The 14-day and 21-day ordinary pass is 46,390 yen and 59,350 yen respectively.
