Seishun 18 Ticket

The Seishun 18 ticket (青春１８きっぷ), is the most economical deal for travel in Japan, offering five days of unlimited JR train travel for just 12,050 yen.
 
Better yet, unlike the Rail Pass, the days do not have to be consecutive. You can even split a ticket so that, for example, one person uses it for two days and another for three days. To get the full benefit of this pass, you’d better create an itinerary in advance by studying the timetables.

Seishun 18 Kippu

The Seishun 18 ticket is a hop-on, hop-off ticket for using non-reserved seats in ordinary cars on local or rapid trains on all JR lines around Japan.
 
It is available for everyone of all ages and regardless of nationality, including Japanese as well as foreign tourists and foreign residents of Japan. The ticket is valid only during school holiday seasons, as shown below:

• Spring: March 1 to April 10 - (On Sale: February 20 to March 31)
• Summer: July 20 to September 10 - (On Sale: July 1 to August 31)
• Winter: December 10 to January 10 - (On Sale: December 1 to December 31)

You need good timing and plenty of time on your hands to use them. The price for the Seishun 18 is the same for adults and children. You can purchase this pass in advance at JR Ticket Offices (Midori-no-Madoguchi), JR EAST Travel Service Centers, and some Reserved Seat Ticket Vending Machines at major JR East stations.

The unlimited rides also include use of the JR West Miyajima Ferry for travel from the mainland to the island of Miyajima. For more information, visit the East Japan Railway Company website.
 
As a foreigner, you can also opt for the Japan Bus Pass, which offers discounted bus travel all across the WILLER Highway Bus network.
