MEJ has been seeking out hospitals around Japan to be added to the list, and will continue to accept more applicants. Dubbed "international hospitals", these facilities are scattered across much of the country.
These hospitals are listed on the Japan Hospital Search website in few languages including English. This website also has a customizable search function in an attempt to cater to each individual and their specific requirements. The patients can search for hospitals which best meets their needs by identifying diseases, specialties or simply the hospital’s name.
The site also has information on such matters as obtaining the necessary visa to come to Japan and how to arrange for an interpreter. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan also provides information on the Medical Coordinators and Travel Agencies as guarantors for the visa scheme on their websites.
When patients consult medical travel coordinators, appropriate hospitals will be introduced to them. Patients can also obtain the rough estimates for the treatment and other expenses from the coordinators.
The Japanese government is seeking to boost the number of people coming to Japan for medical treatment as a way to help stimulate related businesses as well as to export advanced medical care systems. It is also a step forward by the government for their role in globalization of Japan's medical services.
On Halal In Japan website there is a short list of Bilingual Hospitals & Clinics which might come handy in times of emergencies, for foreigners who have limited knowledge of Japanese language.
