What Is The Welcome Suica Card?

Understanding Japan's transportation networks and determining the most cost-effective travel choices can be challenging for foreign travelers. The Welcome Suica Card minimizes the need for paper tickets and cash by offering a simple and convenient electronic payment option. It allows you to tap and go on trains, buses, or pay for coin lockers, vending machines, convenience stores, and restaurants that carry the Welcome Suica logo—it's all done with a simple touch.

Welcome Suica card includes 1-day unlimited rides on the Tokyo Monorail Line between Haneda Airport and Hamamatsucho Station and 1-day unlimited rides on JR trains within the 23 districts of Tokyo.

From Haneda Airport, if you are planning to take the Tokyo Monorail to the city center, you can use the Welcome Suica card right away without charging it. You can also transfer to the JR Yamanote line and continue traveling for free on the card's first day of use. However, before using the Tokyo Metro or any other non-JR lines, you must first charge the card. 1-Day Tokyo Monorail Pass and 1-Day JR Lines Pass need to be used on the same day you start using the card. Visit the website to see an image of the train map, which you can ride on for free.

Where To Get A Welcome Suica Card?

You can purchase a Welcome Suica card at the train station of Narita Airport and Haneda Airport. For more convenience, the Welcome Suica card can be ordered online and picked up at Haneda Airport. Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a mobile voucher. To receive your Welcome Suica card, present the voucher at Haneda Airport designated counter.

How To Activate Your Welcome Suica Card?

Activating your Welcome Suica card is a simple process that can be done at Haneda Airport and Narita Airport or any JR station green ticket vending machines. If you need assistance, you can visit JR East Travel Service Centers at major JR stations, including Haneda Airport Terminal 3 Station and Narita Airport Terminal 1 & 2 & 3 Station. It is worth noting that you cannot use or charge this card for the first time outside of the Tokyo area (JR East). After the first charge in Tokyo, it can be recharged and used across Japan.

How To Top Up Your Welcome Suica Card?

You can recharge your Welcome Suica card at ticket machines in train stations. Instructions will be provided in both Japanese and English. You can only use cash to top up your card. The card can be charged up to 20,000 yen. When charging, you can choose between 1000, 2000, 3000-, 4000-, 5000-, or 10 000-yen bills.

How To Check Welcome Suica Card Balance?

You can easily check your Welcome Suica card balance by inserting it into a ticket vending machine. When you select the balance check option, the machine displays your remaining funds. Also, when passing through ticket gate and tapping your card on the card reader, your remaining balance will be displayed. If your fare exceeds the amount on your card, go to a Fare Adjustment Machine near the ticket gate before exiting the station to top up your Welcome Suica card.

Expiry Date And Reference Paper

The Welcome Suica card is valid for 28 consecutive days from the day you start using it. When you receive your Welcome Suica card, you will also be provided with a Reference Paper, which you can use to verify the card's validity. JR staff may request the reference paper at any time or when using the Welcome Suica card for discounts.

The reference paper must be always carried with you while using the Welcome Suica card and shown to JR staff if requested. Make sure to use the remaining balance before departing Japan or before the card validity expires, as it will not be refunded. Plan your usage wisely to make the most of your card throughout your stay in Japan!
