​Today, more and more elderly people or people with disability are traveling in Japan. 

Japan has put into force a law to ensure accessibility at many places throughout the country.

Organizations at different levels such as the Japanese government, local authorities and NPOs have worked on the development of an accessible travel environment for everyone including people with disabilities and special needs.

Eager to attract more Muslim tourists, Japan’s Hokkaido Island wants to work with Malaysia’s Halal Industry Development Corporation "HDC" to make its capital Sapporo more "Muslim-friendly".

Nozomi Ota, who heads Sapporo’s Developing Local Cuisines in Observance with the Cultures of Muslim Tourists Project, said the city had begun to make changes to accommodate Muslim travelers by building more prayer rooms and publishing a list of Halal restaurants.

"We hope travelers can enjoy our food in Sapporo and feel safe. We will work with the HDC and fly some people to Malaysia to learn about the halal food", she told reporters in Chuo-ku here recently.

Airlines in Japan offer various discount fares on domestic flights.

​​Japan is covered by an extensive domestic air network, which is served by All Nippon Airways "ANA" and Japan Airlines "JAL", together with a number of smaller carriers which offer significant discounts on the cost of a standard domestic fare. 
​

JAL and ANA each offer special fares and air passes for exclusive use by travelers to Japan, which enable holders to fly anywhere within Japan for a little over 10,000 yen, per flight "also referred to as Sector". 
​
These fares and passes can be used to over 30 cities in JAL's and ANA’s domestic networks.
